Game raises awareness and support for women with or who have survived breast cancer

(WASHINGTON, DC) Congresswoman Nanette Barragan, representing California’s 44th Congressional District, will be playing in the 10th Annual Congressional Women's Softball Game on behalf of our own Compton Unified School District Board of Trustee Vice President Satra Zurita, a recent survivor of breast cancer and passionate advocate for early detection. Event details can be found at: https://www.congwomensoftball.org.

The game will take place in Washington DC on Wednesday, June 20, and will feature a bi partisan group of women Members of Congress (Congresswoman Barragan included) taking the field against the women of the DC Press Corps. Proceeds from the Congressional Women’s Softball Game benefit Young Survival Coalition, the global organization dedicated to the critical issues unique to young women who are diagnosed with breast cancer. Each player selects a cancer survivor or person battling cancer to play in honor of for the game. Congresswoman Barragan selected Vice President Zurita for her inspirational story and her service to the students and families of Compton.

In response to the news of the Congresswoman’s decision, Vice President Zurita shared, “I am so very honored and appreciative that Congresswoman Barragan chose to play on my behalf, and that she is lending her voice in the fight on behalf of survivors and those in the battle against cancer. My hope is that it will inspire others to do the same!” Each year, Vice President Zurita organizes the Compton Walk for a Cure for October, to raise awareness of breast cancer as well as support for early detection.
