The Compton Unified School District Board of Trustees met today and passed a resolution to temporarily close its schools for two weeks in acknowledgement of the unique health risks posed by COVID-19. There are currently no known cases of COVID-19 in the district. The Board’s action hereby closes all schools from March 16, 2020 through March 30, 2020.
“Today we made a decision on behalf of the health and wellbeing of our staff and students in light of the COVID-19 pandemic that has impacted our nation and the world. We have been planning for this decision for quite some time with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control, the California and Los Angeles Departments of Public Health, the California Department of Education, and the LA County Office of Education. This was no small matter, and we made great efforts to ensure that our most vulnerable students are supported,” said President Micah Ali.
“I greatly appreciate the support of the Board of Trustees and our staff who have worked tirelessly to prepare for school closures, including continuity of critical services, as well as educational supports. This is an extraordinary situation requiring an extraordinary response. We will keep our staff and families apprised as we continue to refine our efforts,” said Superintendent Dr. Darin Brawley.
The following outlines the district’s plans to support students over the next couple of weeks:
During this time, we will make every possible effort to maintain continuity of education and student meal services. We understand the importance of mitigating any undue hardships that could occur from immediate school closures and interrupted student services.
Optional Curriculum Review Packets-Students will receive optional curriculum review packets while we work to integrate distance learning programs on campus. You can pick up these packets from your child’s school-site on Monday (3/16) and Tuesday (3/17). Additional learning resources may also be accessed at:

This message has important new information about free meals available to students. Beginning March 18, students and youth 18 and younger are now able to pick up breakfast and lunch at once. The hours of distribution will change to 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. only. Students will be able to pick meals up to go at the seven school site distribution centers: those sites are Clinton, McNair, McKinley, Longfellow, Rosecrans, Jefferson and Kelly Elementary Schools.Breakfast will be provided from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and our Lunch will be provided from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Students will only be able to pick up meals to-go but will not be able to eat them on campus.

We will be taking this opportunity to deep clean and sanitize our school-sites, ensuring that they will be refreshed when students return. Our maintenance and operations department will clean each site appropriately, and in accordance with state guidelines in order to reduce exposure to the COVID-19.
Administrative staff and Principals will be at the District Headquarters and school sites on Monday (3/16) and Tuesday (3/17) to distribute student curriculum packets and answer any questions that you may have. Further, we will continue to provide ongoing updates through our district Website, ParentSquare, TV (Channel 26 – Spectrum Compton), and social media.
Our District Board and Superintendent are actively monitoring the situation and will act as appropriate. The health and safety of our students and their families are of the highest priority during this pandemic.
