Access Books & The Book Foundation Partner With Know Your Rights Camp To Launch New Book Campaign In Support Of Compton Students

The effort aims to secure thousands of new, high quality books for low-income students in the Compton Unified School District that are disproportionately impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic—Blackish Set Designer to Join the book distribution at Roosevelt Elementary and help create a mural for the School.

LOS ANGELES – (May 28, 2020) Access Books and the Book Foundation, two Los Angeles-based nonprofits that provide quality books to public schools, community libraries and organizations where the majority of students are vulnerable, under-resourced and live at or below the poverty line, have launched a campaign to provide sets of new books to Compton Elementary students. The Know Your Rights Campaign is funding this important endeavor.

The campaign will provide thousands of new, high quality books for students at Dickison and Roosevelt Elementary Schools in Compton, CA. The pre-K- 8th grade schools serve students living at or below the poverty line. The high interest books will help with student learning activities and bring readers stories that will give them some measure of joy and comfort.

Special guest Bethany Barton, author, artist and set designer for Blackish (https://www.bethanybarton.com @bethanybarton) will be joining the celebration and helping with painting a mural at the school. All kindergarten and pre-k students will receive a copy of her book.

Tax-deductible donations to the joint campaign can be made by following the two links below. 100% of the proceeds will go to the purchase of books for children that will be disproportionately impacted by as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
