In compliance with the Health Framework for California Public Schools, and the California Healthy Youth Act, your child will have lessons on topics like growth and development, pregnancy and birth, parenting, abstinence, birth control, decision making, and sexually transmitted diseases including HIV/AIDS. The lessons will be taught beginning February 8 through April 1, 2021. Please contact your school site for specific dates.
It is important that students receive age-appropriate information that helps them understand the physical changes they go through as teenagers as well as how to deal with relationship pressures and make decisions that support their health and wellbeing. It is important that they develop an appreciation and respect for family life as part of today’s culture. All materials presented are age appropriate and taught by your child’s teacher. You have the right to opt your child out of these lessons. If you would like to opt your child out of all or portions of these lessons, please indicate this in writing to your school site administrator or child’s teacher. An alternative education activity shall be made available to students whose parents/guardians have requested that they not receive these lessons.
Parent information sessions regarding Sexual Health Education is scheduled on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 5:30-6:30 pm for parents of 7th and 8th grade students and at 7:00-8:00 pm for parents of 9th and 10 grade students.
