English Learner (EL) Services is committed to the Compton Unified School District mission to ensure that every student has an equitable, high-quality elementary and secondary education within a safe environment. EL Services endeavors to serve school sites and the general public to ensure that Emergent Bilinguals meet their academic achievement targets. With our customer-service attitude, we strive to effectively contribute to providing Emergent Bilinguals with an exemplary educational experience as they prepare for college and/or a career. Through pedagogical leadership, we collaborate with school sites to monitor, refine, and reflect upon research-based, promising practices to elevate educational outcomes for Emergent Bilinguals

Spotlight on Language Acquisition

Students in the Journalism Afterschool Program closed another successful year of honing their interview skills, writing newsworthy articles, and engaging in journalistic inquiry. Sixteen elementary sites within the Compton Unified School District participated in this innovative program which provides English learners with high-level academic reading, writing, listening and speaking. To culminate their yearlong work, teachers guide students to create a newsletter. This strategic and engaging learning process sets the framework for students to reclassify.
