Meet the Champions!
Congratulations to our talented Compton Scholars who placed in Compton Unified School District’s Annual Spelling Bee, hosted by the Division of Elementary Education. Over 100 Scholars from 24 schools across the district tested their spell-out-loud abilities as families, teachers and fellow students cheered them on.
“I am very proud of all of our talented scholars that are here today,” said CUSD Superintendent Dr. Darin Brawley, who was at the event. “Well done to all, including the teachers, principals and parents who helped make the day a success.”
Below is list of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place spelling champions in each division, along with the winning word.
Primary Division (grades 2-3):
1st place: Hector Jimenez, Rosecrans ES (3rd grade, winning word: SHIELD)
2nd place: Christian Carlos, King ES (2nd grade)
3rd place: Jeannine Apostol, Laurel ES (3rd grade)
Junior Division (grades 4-5):
1st place: Angel Rodriguez, McNair ES (5th grade, winning word: CELEBRITY)
2nd place: Kaelen Nunez, Clinton ES (4th grade)
3rd place: Alexis Cristobal, King ES (5th grade)
Senior Division (grades 6-8):
1st place: Joe Martinez, Davis MS (8th grade, winning word: ANECDOTE)
2nd place: Ricky Guzman, Tibby MS (6th grade)
3rd place: Andrea Retana, Davis Ms (8th grade)
