Dear Compton Unified School District Employees and Families,

On Behalf of the Governing Board of Trustees I wish to thank each and all of you.

As we head into the Winter Break, I wish you a happy and healthful holiday season and thank you for being such a source of great joy and inspiration during such a remarkable year. You met our Compton Scholars where they were, both physically and emotionally, despite the twists and turns that this past year has brought. You kept moving forward, innovating, creating, educating, uplifting, elevating…despite a global pandemic.

And though it has not been the year we thought it would be, what has remained unchanged has been our commitment to do our very best for every single child in this district. Whether walking campuses and witnessing our on-site learning cohorts actively engaged in learning, or seeing distance learning occurring during visits to classrooms, what has given me the greatest of joy has been watching our educators and students in action.

What also brings me great pride is knowing all the hard work and tremendous effort that went into providing both distance and in-person on-site learning. From sanitizing our spaces, feeding students and families, and ensuring students and teachers had the technology and knowledge necessary to use it, while also providing service to students in our small learning cohorts with critical support, all of you have made a tremendous difference.

The fact of the matter is, whether you are a student, employee, parent, or partner you all stretched to meet our students where they were. The result has been nothing short of inspirational. My hope is that each of your will carry that inspiration into this holiday season and that it will be a source of great pride. Job well done!

Finally, I want to acknowledge that the Holidays can be hard for many, especially this year when we are having to social distance and not come together as we normally would. Please know that there is help for you. Through our partnership with Care Solace, employees, students, and their family members can access free, confidential, mental health support. They are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including during the Winter Break. You can access Care Solace support here.

Here’s to a happy and restful Winter Break. I wish you and your loved-ones great health and look forward to our return to instruction in the new year in January 2021.
