Reporter: El éxito académico de los niños no ha sido solo una tarea de las escuelas o de los padres de familia. Ahora durante la pandemia ciertas organizaciones han estado colaborando para que el futuro escolar de los alumnos no se vea más comprometido.

Children's academic success has not been just a task for schools or parents. Now during the pandemic, certain organizations have been collaborating so that the academic future of the students is not more compromised

Reporter: Los estudios virtuales pusieron a prueba las condiciones de aprendizaje a nivel nacional.

Virtual learning put the tested the learning conditions nationwide

Sandra Reséndiz: Mis hijas no ponían atención en la casa para nada. Y ellas iban bien, pero con esto de la pandemia mis hijas bajaron.

My daughters didn’t focus at all. They were doing well, but due to the pandemic they felt behind

Reporter: No era por opción propia, la pequeña Cristina lo que necesitaba era la herramienta principal para lograr sus metas académicas.

It was not by choice, little Cristina needed the main tool to achieve her academic goals.

Cristina: Cuando recibí la laptop, me sentí que like, nunca había tenido una, so esta es la primera que voy a tener que me va ayudar con mi tarea, proyectos y mi clase.

 I had never had a computer and when I received the laptop, my first laptop, now it will help me with my homework, projects and my class.

Reporter: Eso fue posible gracias a la unión que hizo su escuela primaria Roosevelt en Compton con la organización think together que junto con Boadcom ofreció computadoras gratuitas a cierta parte de la población estudiantil.

This was made possible due to the partnership that Roosevelt elementary school in Compton made with the organization think together in collaboration with Boadcom offered free computers to a certain portion of the student population.

Belki McConnel: Para muchos de nuestros niños la escuela es el lugar donde se sienten seguros, donde pueden llegar, estar todo el día, les proveemos desayuno, les proveemos almuerzo, cena y think together nos a ayudado con eso después de escuela.

For many of our students, school is the place where they feel safe, where they can go and stay all day. We provide breakfast, lunch, snacks and think together has helped us with the after-school program.

Natalia Flores: Ahorita en el verano estamos también otra ves en los cuatro condados y estamos dando clases, servicios, donde les estamos ayudando a los niños con clases de enriquecimiento, de arte, de ciencia, de tecnología, de música.

Once again, we are again in the four counties during the summer and we are offering classes and services. We are providing the students with enrichment classes in art, science, technology, and music.

Reporter: Incluso de educación física, y es como explica Natalia, el distanciamiento que provoco el cierre por la crisis de salud, tuvo mas efectos de los pensados.

Even physical education class, as Natalia explains, the distancing and closure caused health crisis, and had more negative effects than expected.

Natalia Flores: darle un programa donde los niños están practicando como ser social con otros niños, sus emociones han estado you know, la pandemia ha sido como un trauma.

provide a program where children are practicing how to be social with other children; the pandemic has been emotionally traumatic.

Reporter: y por esos están trabajando sin parar con los planteles que lo soliciten, para seguir con los servicios en el nuevo año escolar.

And for those reasons, think together are working non-stop with schools that request it; to continue with the services in the new school year.

Natalia Flores: Ahorita la meta es emprender académicamente y socialmente, y tenemos que tratar de recoger y alcanzar otra vez.

Right now, the goal is to keep learning academically and socially, and we have to try to pick up where we left off and achieve again.

Reporter: think together está en más de 400 escuelas de California asistiendo a unos 200, 000 estudiantes. Lo único que tienen que hacer los padres interesados en estos programas, es preguntar a sus directores si ya existe en su distrito, en su escuela o quizá ya existen otros programas similares que le puedan ayudar.

think together is in over 400 California school, serving approximately 200,000 students. All parents interested in these programs should ask their school’s principal if this program already exists in their district, in their school or perhaps they might already have other similar programs.

Male Reporter: Oye, pues la verdad es que es una oportunidad muy muy grande para tantos y tantos jóvenes que lo necesitan, es un programa muy positivo.

It is a great opportunity for so many young students who need it, it is a very positive program.

Reporter: Así es, dice la directora de esta escuela en especifico en Compton, que pudieron estar abiertos durante la pandemia y ahorita durante el verano después de clases, gracias a organizaciones como esta, que hacen la recaudación de fondos y luego llegan ahí a impartir esas clases después de clases. Ósea que de verdad que han ayudado bastante en estos tiempos difíciles.

That's right, the principal of this specific school in Compton, stated that they were able to stay open during the pandemic and right now, during the summer after school, thanks to organizations like this one that do the fundraising and come here to teach those classes after school. So, they really have helped a lot in these difficult times.
